The Foundation of a Great Smile
When asked what a great smile looks like, most people give adjectives like straight, bright and white when it comes to the teeth. While these components are often part of a great smile, the true foundation of a great smile is the health of the teeth and gums.
If the teeth and gums are unhealthy or diseased, you probably won’t feel much like smiling. You will likely be in a lot of pain and discomfort. You will also be at risk of tooth loss because of decay or, if infections are left untreated, teeth can loosen and fall out, or may even need to be surgically removed. If you’re left without a tooth or two as a result of decay, disease, or injury, your other teeth can shift around. This can cause crowding, change how your bite fits together, and impact the appearance of your smile.
Dr. Erpenbach evaluates each patient’s oral health to determine what, if any, steps need to be taken to treat decay or disease.
Improving Aesthetics of Your Smile
After evaluation and treatment, improving the aesthetics of the smile can begin. This may include cosmetic restorations like dental crowns or bridges to give strength and form back to the teeth. Dental implants replace missing or damaged teeth, and porcelain veneers cover stained or misshapen teeth and can even cover small gaps between the teeth.
Some patients also choose whitening treatments to brighten their teeth after other aesthetic treatments are completed. Dr. Erpenbach offers patients in-office and take-home whitening solutions to brighten smiles.
Maintaining Your Smile
Once your smile is healthy and beautiful, you will want to maintain the dental work you’ve had done to protect your health and your new look. This means scheduling regular appointments for cleanings and brushing and flossing every day at home.
