For many adults, the need for straighter teeth is tempered by the desire for a more discreet way to achieve them than braces. Fortunately for most of them, their malocclusion (tooth misalignment) can be straightened with ClearCorrect® braces, which eliminate the need for brackets and wires, and the apprehension that often goes with them. ClearCorrect consists of a series of clear acrylic aligners (sort of like mouthguards, but thinner) that are custom-designed to fit over your teeth. As a more attractive, and more convenient, alternative to traditional braces, the clear aligners can change the way you view orthodontic treatment.

The Benefits of Clear Aligners

Besides affecting how well your bite works, crooked teeth are typically apparent, even in minor cases. In fact, their appearance is usually the deciding factor for patients to seek orthodontic treatment. Since the goal is to improve their confidence, patients who might otherwise wish to straighten their teeth instead choose not to for fear of being embarrassed by braces. The main benefits of clear aligners involve discretion. The clear acrylic is see-through; the custom-fit ensures they remain firmly in place; and they’re removable, in case you need to take a picture, or attend a business meeting, and don’t want to risk them being seen.

How They Work

In conventional braces, the point of the brackets and wires is to apply gentle force to nudge your teeth into straighter positions. The science behind ClearCorrect’s aligners applies the same principles of slow, gentle tooth movement, but achieves it by shaping the aligners to guide your teeth through the same movement. Each aligner is worn for a couple of weeks, then changed for the next in the series. After wearing the last aligner, your teeth will look, feel, and function better in their new proper alignment.

Are ClearCorrect Braces Right for You?

Though most mild to moderate cases of adult malocclusion can be corrected with clear aligners, severe cases may require the more-comprehensive treatment that only braces can provide. Before suggesting an appropriate treatment plan, we’ll perform a thorough examination using innovative diagnostic equipment, such as digital X-rays. If ClearCorrect is appropriate, then we can generate your entire treatment plan using 3D computer imaging technology to show you what to expect every step of the way.
