Dr. Jim Erpenbach understands that many people in the United States have neglected their teeth. He realizes that some people may go years before they schedule an appointment for a dental checkup. If you are one of these patients, we would like to invite you to our office. Our compassionate and knowledgeable staff won’t judge you for prolonging dental care. Instead, we will be happy to see you and give you the thorough checkup that you need.
Is Going to the Dentist Really Necessary?
Yes it is! Even if you meticulously brush and floss your teeth as you are supposed to, it is still not enough to protect your oral health from tooth decay and gum disease. Brushing and flossing alone will not remove plaque buildup or tartar around and in between your teeth. This buildup is filled with potentially harmful bacteria just waiting to attack your gum tissues. By going to the dentist every 6 months, our dental team will gently remove this buildup from your teeth and significantly diminish the threats of infection and inflammation in your mouth.
Regular cleanings also help prevent tooth decay and cavities. Many dentists apply a topical fluoride solution at your checkup which strengthens your tooth enamel and protects your teeth from new threats. In addition, Dr. Erpenbach will take X-rays of your teeth and give you a thorough examination. X-rays will detect weak spots in your teeth that aren’t visible to the human eye as well. The examination will assess your overall oral health and screen you for oral cancers. Preventive dentistry and routine checkups can help stop the progression of oral health problems and even reduce the likelihood of painful and costly procedures in the future.
